Time Management Explained
Everyone has different goals and different degrees to how much they need to clean up elements of time management. We explained what attitudes you need coming into changing your habits, but we did not talk about exact elements of organization skills. Everyone can improve but everyone have particular elements that they need to work on. The following is a list of things that all people can work on; the novice and the expert alike:
Time Management Explained
-Learn to say “no:” This is important. We cannot be all things to all people at once. Whether you are a working mother that is being asked to volunteer your time to an organization or a workaholic that is asked to do even more at your business, you have to understand your limits. We aren’t born with a thousand arms and legs for a reason; we have to focus our time on a limited set of things. Many studies have shown how multitasking is itself a myth: we cannot do too many tasks at the same time well. Even those who think they are “good” at multitasking actually sacrifice their attention to all the projects. Think of this as a lesson that we need to focus our minds at a limited amount of projects and do them well.
-Prioritize: This means that we need to think about what is most important first. Do that, and then go to the next project. This means that we ensure we save our most energy to the things that make the biggest difference. In this way, prioritizing is a means to achieve the most and a way for us to pat ourselves on the back that we did the things that really mattered. Good time management means that you strategize how you use your time. By being conscious of how we use our time, we win half the battle. I wrote on how that was important before, actually writing it down is a good way to achieve explain time management.
-Time management is explained often as a series of things you should do: write down this, eat that, but by not doing things you can also achieve quite a lot. We already went over not overexerting yourself, but also by setting aside time that you will not spend in a structured way will help you keep up at the time that you do spend in a structured way. By setting aside time that is not planned you will be even better at keeping up with the time that you have planned.
-Finally, keep yourself in a mindset where you are responsible for the way you spend time. Always think that there is one person that is in charge of the way you spend time and that person is not a boss, a spouse or children, it is you.
